History

The state of Jashpur was ceded to the British Government by the provisional agreement concluded with Mudhoji Bhonsle in 1818. Although noticed in the second part of this agreement as a separate state, it was at first treated as a fief of Surguja to some measure. The relations of the chief are regulated by the provisions of the sanad granted in 1899 and later reissued in 1905. The Raja has a military force of 2 guns (in 1893).
