Raja ARTATRAN SINGH Deo, 16^th Raja of Khariar 1913/1946, born 1900, installed on the gaddi in 1921, a great patron of Art, Culture and Education; a sportsman of distinction, member of many committees and Organisations; he sponsored Scholarships for deserving students for higher education; patronised the ‘Beer Bikram Theatre’ of Khariar, the first permanent Oriya Stage in the State; nominated member of Orissa Advisory Council; M.L.A. (Orissa) 1937/1952 (two terms); he played a pivotal role in the formation of Orissa as a separate province in the year 1936, it was at his instance and under his enlightened leadership that Khariar Zamindari merged with the State of Orissa leading to full Statehood; married the second daughter of Raja Narpat Singh of Porahat, and had issue. He died 1946.

Raja ANUP SINGH DEO, 17^th Raja of Khariar 1946/2003, born 24^th February 1920, educated at Cambridge (Senior); he was a member of the Orissa Legislative Assembly for eight terms 1952/1973, 1974/1977 and 1980/1990 and was also a Minister in the Orissa Government on six occasions; Member, District Board, Sambalpur, 1940/1941; President, Union Board, Khariar, 1941; District Leader, National War Front and Assistant Recruiting Officer during World War II, 1942/1945 at Chaudwar, Cuttack, Member, General Counci and Standing Member, Manging Committee, Rajkumar College, Raipur; Hon. Magistrate Khariar 1941/1942; a known literary figure of Orissa and has authored 14 books on poetry and Oriya Literature including Arati, Urmi, Latika, Murchhana, Hillola Bireaha, Baridhi, Chayantika, Tripatri, Paritosh, Spandana, Rasa Majusha, Samcuhaya, and others; honoured with the title of Kavi Saurabh, by the Sahitya Kala Akademi of Orissa; interests were Hunting, Music and Politics, Reading and Writing; he married Shrimati Rani Soubhagya Manjari Devi, daughter of HH Maharaja Brij Mohan Deb of Kalahandi, and his wife, HH Maharani Suratarangini Devi, and had issue, three sons and five daughters. He died 4^th October 2003.

(Orissa) 1990/1995; Member, Rajya Sabha (3.4.2002) - (2.4.2008); Member, Committee on Industry 2002/2008; Member, Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Water Resources 2002/2008; Participated in the peasant movement against the hike in agriculture water tax in 1971 at Aul and Kendrapara sub division and in the relief operation for the flood victims in the 1971 cyclone in the area; spearheaded the movement in Kendrapara district to set up Girls High School in 1977 and carried out extensive relief operation in Aul in the 1999 Super Cyclone; has a keen interest in conservation of ancient heritage and important archeological monuments as well as aquaculture activities; inclined towards experimenting various aquaculture production activities such as prawn and fisheries in Kendrapara district; interests and pastimes are Reading, touring new places, cooking, wildlife protection and conservation, folk theatre in rural areas and agriculture; Director, Lift Irrigation Corporation, Orissa, for three years; Member, Board of Secondary Education, Orissa, for five years; Member, TAC, Orissa, for four years; Member, Consultative Irrigation Committee, Orissa for four years; Member, Sri Vihar Sanskrit University, Puri (Orissa) for two years; previously associated with the Janata Dal; married 27^th January 1969, Raja Sarat Kumar Deb of Aul, and has issue, two sons and one daughter.
