History

Sakhoon is the Patvi thikana of Bhakarsinghot clan and its offshoots include the rulers of Akoda, Bichun, Diggi, Dudu, Gaiji, Jadawata, Jhir, Marwa, Parli, Pachewar, Sewa, Sali, Sawarda, etc. The founder of Bhakarsinghot clan was Maharao Bhakar Singh, 8th and mightiest son of Maharao Khangar, Raja of Naraina, grandson of Raja Prithviraj Singh I, 8th Raja of Amber (Jaipur) 1502/1527. Sakhun is an ancient town and site of a magnificent fortress. It has a Railway Station, located on Jaipur-Ajmer Railway line in between Naraina and Kishangarh. Its rulers were one of the most prominent generals of Jaipur State as well as directly received Mansab Jagirs from Mughal Emperors.

  • Raja Prithviraj I, 8th Raja of Amber 1502/1527, married Rani Bala Bai (Apoorva Devi), daughter of Rao Lunkaran Rathore of Bikaner, and had issue. He died .
    • Rao Jagmal Kachwaha (sixth son), briefly Raja of Amber, Rao of Jagmalpura, along with his son Khangar, he captured Jobner, Boraj, Kalakh etc and founded Jagmalpura to the west of Jobner, he married nine wives, namely, (a) Sodhi Rani Net Kanwar (Neta Kunwari, Asalde), daughter of Sodha Raja Pahar Singh of Amarkot [Surajmal of Umarkot?], on her name he established Asalpur, (b) Chandra Kanwar Karnot, (c) Barkhawati, daughter of Rawal Sangram Singh of Jaisalmer, (d) Borangde, daughter of Khinvkaran of Pokhran, (e), Rani Kisnawati, daughter of Rao Duda of Merta, and granddaughter of Rao Jodha of Jodhpur, (f) Borangde, daughter of Chauhan Balkaran, (g), Sodhi Sada Kanwar, daughter of Maheshdas of Gangraina, (h), Chauhanji of Chitawa, (i), Chauhanji of Parbatsar, and had issue, five sons. He died in .

        • Rao Lakhteer Singhji (Lakhdheer Singh), Apji Saheb of Jadawata, a Chieftain/Thakur under Jaipur State, he participated in various battles under Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh of Jaipur 1880/1922 AD, and was granted the title of 'Lakhteer' and awarded an additional tax-free and extremely fertile "inam jagir" of Gangadwari village near Bandikui (Dausa, Alwar State border) as a token of admiration for his valour, as he saved the life of Jaipur Maharaja facing lacs of arrows and spears. He married and had issue, the Jadawata Royal Family. He died in the battle of Malpura.

  • Maharao Shyam Singh, 4th Rao of Sakhun, he was very brave and mighty, and had various achievements. He served Raja Ram Singh of Amber and participated in Kabul expedition. He left services of Jaipur along with Hari Singh Lamba in Bs 1744. He was a confidant of Sawai Raja Jai Singh. After death of Aurangzeb on 21 February 1707 Ad (BS 1763 Falgun Badi 14) in the war of succession between Azam and Muazzam in the battle of Jaju initially Sawai Jai Singh supported Azam but during the battle changed his side when the chances of Muazzam's victory were obvious. On the other hand, his brother Vijay Singh of Amber, was in support of Muazzam since beginning, who was now the Ruler of Delhi as Bahadurshah, and soon sequestrated jagir of Amber. As per Dr. Gaurishankar Hirachand Ojha, Shyam Singh Khangarot and Dewan Ramchandra recaptured Amber from Mughal Faujdar Hussain Khan even before the arrival of the combined forces of Udaipur and Jodhpur, with the help of his loyal soldiers. He first recaptured Kanota and attacked Saiyyads and then marched towards Amber. In Bs 1774 he became the Faujdar of Chitalwada. He was on friendly terms with the influential Saiyyad brothers of Mughal Durbar (Dewan, Mirbakshi of Farrukhsiar and Mansabdar of 7800) that helped Jaipur State. In Bs 1778 he joined services of Jodhpur. He married Rani (name unknown), and had issue.

    • Rao Budh Singh, Apji Saheb of Bichoon, younger son, displayed valour in the battle of Agra in support of Jaipur (Amber); his five sons had Five Thikanas - Bichun, Dudu, Marwa, Jhir and Pachewar. Sali, Akoda and Bhojpur belong to junior offshoots of this line.

  • Rao Narayan Singh, 12th Rao of Sakhoon, fl. 1947, adopted from Sewa, born as son of Rao Karan Singhji of Sewa. He married Rani Nayan Kanwar (later Maji Saheb), princess of Dobri, and had adoptive issue. Their properties devolved upon Seva/Sewa family after a prolonged legal battle against the claimant from Gaiji/Geji thikana Thakur Saheb Hamir Singhji, himself a descendant of Sewa family.   • Rao Ganga Singh, 13th Rao of Sakhoon, adopted from Seva, born as son of Rao Prithvi Singhji of Sewa. He died . sp. and had adoptive issue, his brother, thus Sakhun gaddi merged with Sewa thikana. Due to frequent adoptions, the thikana lost its charm and powerful position in state politics.

  • Rao Raghuvir Singh, 14th Rao of Sakhoon and 9th Thakur of Sewa, married Rajkumari Hem Kanwar, daughter of Majarajadhiraj Maharaj Sri Bijey Singhji, Raja of Gaudati, Panchmahal Maroth, double tazim, Sona Naresh Sardar of Jiliya-Abhaypura, and his wife, Maharajkumari Lallan Saheba Ambika Prasad of Nagod State. She died 27th February 2014 aged 76 in Tongia Hospital, Jaipur after prolonged treatment for heart ailment and was cremated at Sewa.

  • Rao Ranjeet Singh, 15th Rao of Sakhoon and 10th Thakur of Sewa, married Mertaniji Baisa (name unknown) of Idwa in Degana, Nagaur, from a politically active family, and had issue, two sons. He died of cancer on 17 April 2024, Ramanavami, at Jaipur and was cremated at Sewa.
