History
The founding father of this clan of Rajputs was Kalyan Singh, one of the sons of Maharaja Prithvi Raj of Amer and Sisodia Rani (daughter of Rana Raimal of Mewar ).
History of this clan is full of valor and courage of the highest order. Kharagsen of Kalwar was one of the most trusted and valiant commander of Mirja Raja Jai Singh (the founder of Jaipur). Karagsen was martyred in battle in the Southern Province. The name Bhakat Singh of Kalwar finds very special mentions in the battle of Hinglaj in 1728AD and in many other battles in Afghanistan. One of the descendants of this clan, Man Singh Kilyanot, is immortalized and glorified in "Kurm Vijay" the historical recital of the battle of Mandawa-Mandol fought between then Jaipur and Bharatpur states in 1767AD.
The castle has been carved out of a fort originally belonging to anothe clan of Rajputs, the Narukas , and won over by the present clan, the Kilyanot in a fierce battle in the 18th century. The woman folk of the Narukas committed Johar , i.e. they jumped to death in burning pyres rather than be captured alive.
Thakur Ram Singh Kalwar did not have a natural heir for long time so he decided to adopt child. He adopt Thakur Balwant Singh from Thikana Durjanyawas in 1835AD. Thakur Balwant Singh Kilyanot married three wife's. He commenced the construction of Kalwar fort in 1869AD and the construction continued by his son Thakur Roop Singh Kilyanot.
