History

In the Churu Region, Rao Bika's brother Rao Bida, after displacing the Mohil Chauhans, established the stronghold of his own sub clan, the Bidawats. As the Maharajas of Bikaner consolidated their hold over the Kingdom, the Bidawats to spread their influence over the neighboring territories. Offshoots from the main branch, known as the Khangarot Bidawat, carved out their own Thikana at Khuri and Salasar and held sway over the routes leading from the West and North into Bikaner. The rights of primogeniture required that the younger brothers seek their fortune elsewhere or be allotted a lesser grant of land. It thus came about that in 1776, Thakur Saheb Zorawar Singh, 4th Thakur of Khuri's younger son, Guman Singh, was given a grant of 6000 Bighas and the Village of Kusumdesar to establish his own Thikana in the fringes of the area governed by Khuri.

      • Padma Bushan Thakur Lt. General Sagat Singh, PVSM (Param Vishisht Seva Medal), known as the Flying General Who never lost a War, Changed the History of India and the world. In 1967 then Maj. Gen.Sagat Singh defied orders and did not vacate Nathu La which led to a fierce battle with the Chinese Army suffering more than 300 killed and 1000 wounded. Later from 1968 to 1970 he brought peace to Mizoram which had tried to break away from India through an armed insurgency. When the War was commenced on 3rd Dec 1971 Gen. Sagat Singh took only 11 days to surround Dhaka from the west and the south and so it was that on 16 Dec 1971 (Meghna Heli Bridge), his dazzling feats of Arms ensured that General Niazi meekly surrendered and lead 93,000 troops into Captivity. There are very few examples of this nature in the Annals of History. A grateful Nation gave him the Padma Bushan for his contribution in the 1971 war (Indo-Pakistani War of 1971). He remains the most successful General of the Indian Army Post Independence having defeated the Portuguese, Chinese and Pakistan Army in Battle. He remains a Legend and remembered equally in Bangladesh as in India. In 2019, the Birth Centenary of Lt.Gen. Sagat Singh was celebrated with much fanfare at Military locations across the Country; married to Kamla Devi of Unnao, daughter of Chief Justice Rachpal Singh, Allahabad High Court: 1934-1940 and J&K High Court: 1940-1942 and had issue.
